Some Structural Properties of Bright Gold Electrodeposits

Abstract
Internal stress is investigated as a parameter of structural changes in gold and gold-alloy electrodeposits from cyanide-based and alkaline sulphite-based electrolytes. In deposits plated from both types of electrolyte, a relationship is found to exist between brightness, cell voltage ripple, and internal stress. This relationship appears to be a consequence of changes in the size of the crystallites of which the deposits are composed.
