Abstract
The occurrence of moniliasis after therapy with chloram-phenicol, aureomycin and terramycin has occasioned considerable difficulty. As a result of this, the work reported in this paper was undertaken with the following results: (1) In vitro sensitivity studies established a definite inhibitory effect by methyl and propyl esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid on 5 strains of yeast. The esters are essentially non-toxic when administered orally, vaginally or rectally. Methyl and propyl p-hydroxybenzoates are of value in preventing the overgrowth of Candida albicans associated with aureomycin therapy. Keywords
