Studies on the Metabolism of Phospholipids in Mycobacterium phlei I. Difference in Turnover Rates of Individual Phospholipids

Abstract
In growing cells of Mycobacterium phlei, phospholipids showed an appreciable turnover. Among the components of phospholipids, cardiolipin had the highest turnover rate. Phosphatidyl-inositol oligomannosides and phosphatidyl ethanol-amine showed relatively low turnovers compared with that of cardiolipin. Phosphatidic acid was also a metabolic precursor of phospholipids even in the cells of M. phlei.
