BIOLOGICAL ASSAY OF ADRENAL CORTICOIDS1

Abstract
A modified Reinecke-Kendall test for the assay of small amts. of corticoids has been developed. This method is based upon the deposition of glycogen in the livers of glucose treated adrenalectomized mice by adrenal cortical steroids. By the admn. of measured amts. of glucose it has been possible to increase the sensitivity of the test many times. In the glucose treated adrenalectomized mouse, 11-dehydro 17-hydroxy corticosterone was found to be 3 times as active as 11-dehydro corticosterone. By means of this method it is possible to follow the daily urinary excretion of corticoids in the human being.
