Abstract
The chevrotain was studies at Makokou, Gabon, during 1962-1965 and 1969-1972. Some were traced by the capture-recapture technique, and 2 females by radio-tracking. Animals were aged by the stages of succession of the teeth and by jugal wear, and were separated into 4 classes of juveniles and 11 classes of adults. The chevrotain was characterized as forest-dwelling, fruit-eating, terrestrial, living close to water, of small size and nocturnal. Aspects of reproduction, ecology, feeding, density, social behavior, mortality and sex ratio were discussed.
