Abstract
The semiclassical approximation is applied to the calculation of L-subshell Coulomb ionization of atoms by light ions, using relativistic Coulomb wavefunctions for the electrons. The Coulomb deflection of the projectile is taken into account by the tangential approximation. Numerical results are presented both for total cross sections and for the impact dependence of the ionization probabilities. There is considerable improvement in the agreement with experiment for low-energy projectiles. At high energies the relativistic effects and the deflection effects partially cancel each other. Keywords
