Abstract
Adult female rats were maintained for 20 days on 100% or 50% of
ad libitum
feed intake or 50%
ad libitum
feed intake plus powdered glucose
ad libitum
. Body, pituitary and ovarian weights were reduced in animals on restricted feed intake while the same treatment plus glucose supplementation resulted in body and organ weights similar to full-fed animals (feed treatment, P<.01). The mean plasma LH concentration in rats on restricted feed intake was lower (P<.01) than that of full-fed rats or rats on restricted feed plus supplemental glucose. Restricted feeding with glucose supplementation resulted in a mean plasma LH concentration similar to that of full-fed controls. Anterior pituitary LH concentration was not significantly affected by feed level. Copyright © 1972. American Society of Animal Science . Copyright 1972 by American Society of Animal Science.
