Abstract
Monte Carlo simulations are used to study the roughening transition in the solid-on-solid and discrete Gaussian models of interfaces. It is demonstrated that very long simulation times are required to obtain a meaningful description of interface properties. Strong evidence is presented for the existence of the roughening transition, which is reflected in the thermodynamic properties of interfaces as well as the expected divergence of the interface width. Keywords
