Abstract
Nine patients with the syndrome acute hemolytic anemia with fragmentation of red cells, thrombocytopenia, and acute renal disease are described, and the relevant previous case reports reviewed. The syndrome is almost completely confined to childhood and is more frequent in infancy. Both sexes are equally susceptible. The onset is fulminating, death occurring within a few days in about half the cases diagnosed. The renal lesions are variable, but vascular abnormalities, particularly thrombi in the glomerular tufts and areas of cortical necrosis, are frequent. Keywords
