RADIOACTIVE PHOSPHORUS AS INDICATOR OF THYROID STIMULATION IN THE RAT

Abstract
Uptake of P32 by the thyroid of the intact white male rat after a single and repeated stimulation with thyrotropic hormone and after prolonged treatment with propylthiouracil was determined. A single injection of 2 or 20 Junkman-Schoeller units caused no reaction, prolonged treatment with TSH caused small increase, and treatment with propylthiouracil caused uptake to double which seemed to be maximal. In conclusion, the intact rat was not a suitable animal for p32 studies on the stimulation of the thyroid gland.Keywords
