Ultrastructural Observations on Retrograde Atrophy of Lateral Geniculate Body*†

Abstract

A recent publication from this laboratory (1) described certain cytochemical features of the retrograde degeneration or atrophy produced in neurons of feline lateral geniculate body by resection of the striate cortex. These cytochemical data were obtained by light microscopic study. The communication which follows below will detail ultrastructural features of retrograde atrophy of geniculate neurons. Reasons for our interest in the retrograde phenomenon were elaborated upon in the earlier report (1).
