Formation of mercapturic acids. 5. Metabolism of some halogenoparaffins and nitroparaffins

Abstract
The metabolism of some halogeno- and nitroparaffins was studied in the rabbit, rat and guinea pig. The corresponding mercapturic acids were isolated from the urine of rabbits and rats given bromobutane and bromopentane and of rats given bromohexane. The amounts of mercapturic acid excreted by animals given several halogeno- and nitro-alkanes were determined by a specific chroma to-graphic method. Most of the compounds examined yield in the rabbit and rat another sulfur-containing metabolite, and RM values suggest that these metabolites from bromobutane to bromo -octane form a homologous series. The excretion of bromide and iodide by animals given bromo- and iodo-alkanes was measured.
