Mumps III. Comparison of Methods for Detection of Viruria

Abstract
For isolation of mumps virus from urine, monkey kidney cell cultures were superior to embryonated hen''s egg. In 21 patients, virus was recovered from 56 to 58 urines by cell culture only, from one by hen''s egg method only, and from one by both methods. Hemagglutination and hemadsorption were less sensitive indicators of virus but the latter was a rapid confirmatory technique.
