QUANTITATIVE STUDIES OF EXPERIMENTALLY INDUCED SEXUAL RECEPTIVITY IN THE SPAYED GUINEA-PIG1

Abstract

Expts. with 130 animals showed that experimentally induced heat, detd. by sexual receptivity, can be put on a rigid quantitative basis with reproducibility of results. Animals may be kept conditioned for 5 or more days with single theelin injs., and for 8 or more days with progynon-B. The latent period and length of heat are inversely related and for a given procedure their sum approximates a constant. The latent period does not increase nor the length of heat decrease in animals brought into heat after long periods of conditioning. Curves for the biological testing and assaying of estrogens and of progesterone are given.
