Depression of calcium absorption in parathyroidectomized rats

Abstract
An in vivo study of the effect of parathyroidectomy on the intestinal absorption of Ca by growing rats showed that parathyroidectomy did not appreciably affect net absorption at a dietary level of 1.2%, but that it significantly depressed absorption at levels of 0.6 and 0.3%. This observation was interpreted to mean that the parathyroid hormone is one of the factors involved in the phenomenon of adaptation to changing dietary intakes of Ca.
