THE EFFECT OF X-IRRADIATION AND SEROTONIN ON Cr51UPTAKE IN MOUSE BONE, MUSCLE, AND BRAIN

Abstract

In all the tissues studied (duodenum, gastrocnemius, heart, brain, and tibia) serotonin treatment prior to X-irradiation produced a smaller increase and a faster return to corresponding control Cr⁵¹values than in unprotected X-irradiated mice. It is suggested, with certain exceptions, that this increase in Cr⁵¹and return to normal, whether in protected or non-protected X-irradiated mice, is indicative of the amount of damage or subsequent repair and the time of recovery in the tissues studied.
