Abstract
The origin of noise in vacuum tube amplifiers is discussed. An amplifier is described which can be used for the measurement of low voltages. A type 38 tube operated below ionizing voltages of the gas in the tube is found to have a low noise level. 10−8 volt can be measured in the audiofrequency range. Keywords
