Abstract
Sotalol hydrochloride is a potent noncardioselective β-adrenergic-blocking agent devoid of intrinsic sympathomimetic and membrane-stabilizing actions16. Unlike other β-adrenergic-blocking drugs, sotalol (4-(2-isopropylamino-1-hydroxyethyl) methanesulfonanilide hydrochloric acid) prolongs the duration of action potentials recorded in cardiac tissue, increases the refractory period, and lengthens the QT interval on the surface electrocardiogram1,2. It is an effective antiarrhythmic and antifibrillatory agent in patients with various cardiac-rhythm disorders. The drug has been used extensively in Europe and has recently been approved for marketing in the United States as an agent for oral use in patients with life-threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmias. β-Adrenergic AntagonismSotalol is . . .Keywords
