Abstract
Social interactions of four-year-olds in proprietary day care centers with high and low environmental ratings were compared. No clear-cut association between the ratings and social behavior was found. Alternative explanations for the complex pattern of results are suggested, and implications for the assessment of day care quality are offered.Keywords
