Abstract
An applicator has been designed which consists of a V-shaped hopper having a longitudinal slot near the apex. This slot is covered by a sliding perforated metal tape positioned by guides. The ends of the tape are connected to spools projecting from the hopper. The dosage of insecticide is regulated by turning the spools until the section of tape with the desired hole spacings is positioned over the slot. Electric doorbell vibrators are used to discharge the granules through the holes in the tape. A metal bar covers the holes when the vibrators are not being activated. This equipment has been used for applying granulated insecticides as broadcast and row treatments to plants up to 12 inches in height, and as row application to sorghum, corn, and sugarcane plants from 3 to 10 feet. Accurate dosages of the insecticide may be applied and the granules confined to swaths of a definite width.
