The deposition of 35S in cortical bone

Abstract
Chemical and autoradiographic studies of S35 deposition in the tibiae of rabbits are described. S35 is incorporated into bone in 2 forms: (1) a labile moiety distributed throughout the bone which is in large part removed by decalcifying agents; (2) a non-labile form present in high concentration in areas of active bone growth, which is not removed by decalcifying agents. The radioactive material extracted from decalcified bone was shown to be chondroitin S35 sulfate or a closely allied substance.
