Abstract
By a method of fractionation, based upon an extraction procedure, the tritocerebral commissure of Crago has been shown to contain 2 powerful and mutually antagonistic chromato-phorotrophins influencing body coloration. One, a body-lightening principle, CBLH, is readily soluble in such polar organic solvents as methyl, ethyl, and isopropyl alcohols. The other, CDH, with body-darkening activity, is not soluble in these but is very soluble in sea water. CDH is not antagonized by CBLH in its striking darkening activity upon the telson and uropods.
