Human Lung Mast Cell and Alveolar Macrophage Cytoplasmic Lipid Bodies Contain Arachidonic Acid and Prostaglandin Endoperoxide Synthase (Cyclooxygenase), the Substrate and Enzyme Necessary for Prostaglandin Production

Abstract
Lipid bodies are non-membrane-bound cytoplasmic organelles that are prevalent in mammalian cells of diverse lineages and that have been observed to increase in cells involved in inflammatory responses. Specialized morphological and biochemical studies have provided evidence for the involvement of lipid bodies in eicosanoid synthesis.
