Demonstration of a Hatching Secretion in Rana Pipiens Schreber

Abstract

The filtrates are thermo-labile, being inactive after boiling. Standing, even at lowered temps., caused clouding and loss of activity within 2-3 days. Fluids which were recovered after successful artificial hatching and then re-filtered, evinced little or no capacity for further action. Great Bear Spring water in which large clutches of eggs had hatched normally seemed similarly inactive.
