Cretin rabbits (thyroidectomized 2-3 weeks after birth) develop a disturbance in skeletal development fundamentally simulating clinical rickets, but not due to dietary deficiency. This condition is accompanied by severe anemia, and is characterized by normal or slightly subnormal concentration of blood Ca and low acid-soluble P of the serum.
