SQ 26,776, a novel -lactam: an in-vitro comparison with other antimicrobial agents

Abstract
The activity of the novel monocyclic β -lactam SQ 26,776 (SQ) was compared with that of cefoxitin, moxalactam, piperacillin and gentamicin using an agar dilution procedure. SQ was active against strains containing known β -lactamases of the Tern, Oxa and SCV-1 types, but strains containing chromosomal cephalosporinase and ‘broad spectrum’ enzymes were less susceptible. The MIC 90 of SQ against the common Enterobacteriaceae was 128 mg/l). The MIC was similar to the MBC and serum had little effect on activity.
