A Technique for Re-Entrant Ileocecal Cannulation of Swine

Abstract
A procedure for the surgical insertion of an indwelling, re-entrant cannula across the ileocecal juncture has been developed and used successfully on eight pigs. Cannulated pigs have maintained normal passage of digesta from sorghum grain-soybean meal and corn-soybean meal diets for periods up to 6 months following surgery. The technique provides an opportunity to make digesta collections of practical diets at the terminal ileum and infusion of materials into the cecum. Copyright © 1973.
