THE SOJOURN OF INSULIN IN THE BLOOD OF RABBITS AFTER THE ADMINISTRATION OF MASSIVE DOSES OF INSULIN1

Abstract
Insulin injected intraven. into rabbits in doses of 1000 units can be recovered from the blood stream for as long as 90 mins., with a maximum recovery within 15 rnins. In 4 of the 10 animals a gradual and persistent rise in blood sugar occurred; in 5 others an initial hyperglycemia was followed by hypoglycemia which lasted as long as 9 hrs.
