The demonstration of galactosamine in extracellular hydroxyproline-rich macromolecule purified from the culture media of tobacco cells

Abstract

Hexosamine, which is sensitive to the Elson-Morgan reaction, was detected in purified hydroxyproline-containing macromolecule derived from the culture media of suspension-cultured tobacco cells. Using the colorimetric method this substance was identified as galactosamine. Lyxose derived from galactosamine of the macromolecule was confirmed by paper chromatography.
