Optimal Time of Diffusion of Thiocyanate Ion in Normal Men: Correlation of Thiocyanate Space With Body Weight, Surface Area and Lean Body Mass

Abstract
Optimal time of diffusion of thiocyanate ion was detd. by measuring thiocyanate spaces at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 hours after injn. in 51 experiments on 25 healthy, young, white males. Correlations were calculated for this space with body wt., surface area and lean body mass. In addition, the random error of the technic was detd. by replicate measurements on 9 individuals. The optimal time for complete diffusion of injd. thiocyanate ion was 2 hrs. The thiocyanate space correlated best with surface area and lean body mass. There was a significantly lower coefficient of correlation between this space and body wt.
