Abstract
The dispersion associated with Mössbauer resonance absorption has been analyzed. Special attention is given to the problem of the rotation of linearly polarized recoil-free 14.4-keV rays transmitted through a resonantly absorbing material (transmitter) with longitudinal applied field (nuclear Faraday effect). A simple zero-velocity Mössbauer polarimeter and its operation are described. It has been used to measure the Faraday effect in the ferrimagnetic spinel Mg .
