THE EFFECT OF INTRAVENOUS ADMINISTRATION OF ADRENALINE AND dl-NOR-ADRENALINE ON THE CIRCULATING EOSINOPHILS AND LYMPHOCYTES

Abstract
1.5 mg. of epinephrine or dl- norepinephrine were injd. intraven. in the course of 1 hr. into 10 healthy subjects, 22-27 yrs. of age, 6 men and 4 women. During the injn. of epinephrine there was an increase in the total number of white cells and lymphocytosis, probably due to contraction of the spleen. After the injn. there was a decrease in the number of eosinophils and lymphocytes due to stimulation of the pituitary-adrenal system. dl-Norepinephrine produced no changes in the total number of white blood cells, lymphocytes or eosinophils.
