Determination of homogeneous spectral widths by fluorescence line narrowing in Ca(PO3)2:Eu3+

Abstract
Homogeneous spectral widths are determined for inhomogeneously broadened transitions of the Eu3+ ion in Ca(PO3)2 glass by observing resonance fluorescence lines under monochromatic dye-laser excitation. A Lorentzian profile of the emission line measured is consistent with the existing theory. Effects of spectral diffusion and strain broadening on the fluorescence narrowing are discussed.
