Abstract
Tests on a rectangular channel, 10.5 in. by 3 in. in cross section, transporting water mixed with different proportions of sand, are described in this paper. In terms of mean sedimentation diameters, two sizes of sand were used–0.10 mm and 0.16 mm. The experimental data were used to study (a) the effects of the presence of sand in suspension on the characteristics of the flow, and (b) the momentum transfer coefficient and the concentration transfer coefficient at the profile through the center line of the channel, assuming a two-dimensional flow.
