Third virial coefficient of a two-dimensional Lennard-Jones gas

Abstract
The third virial coefficient is calculated for a two-dimensional gas whose molecules interact via a Lennard-Jones (12, 6) potential. An improvement of the method used by Barker and Monaghan in three dimensions is employed for the computations. The results are applied to data for the fourth-order interaction of argon with graphite, but the analysis is inconclusive, owing to uncertainties in the measurements.
