Recovery of Herpes Simplex Virus from Rabbit Brain Nine Months After Inoculation.

Abstract

Herpes simplex virus was recovered from the central nervous tissue of 2 rabbits 3 and 9 months after the inoculation at a peripheral site. In each case the recovery of the virus followed activation of a latent infection by anaphylactic shock in sensitive animals. The recovered virus was identified by its biological activity and characteristic intranuclear inclusion.
