THE INHERITANCE OF SPONDYLITIS RHIZOMELIQUE (ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS) IN THE K. FAMILY

Abstract
Spondylitis rhizomelique is described in a pedigree extending over 4 generations of 87 persons. 6 patients with advanced disease were found, the individuals in generation 4 being below the usual age of onset. The disease appears to be transmitted in this kindred as if due to a single autosomal dominant gene while the exact frequency of expression cannot be specified. The study includes not only clinical, X-ray, and laboratory data, but also such inherited characteristics as the blood groups, hair variations, color vision, and the ability to secrete the group specific substances in the saliva.
