Abstract
A model potential method is applied to the calculation of the eigenfunctions and interaction potentials of several valence states of the molecules MgHe+ and MgHe. The interaction potentials are used in the impact approximation to compare the line broadening caused by collisions with helium of the ionized and neutral magnesium systems and in the elastic approximation to estimate the cross sections for collision-induced transitions between the fine structure levels. Keywords
