Abstract
The life cycle of Nocardia is described. Microcysts, formed in the same manner as in Eubacteria, germinate by budding. The bud develops into a multinucleate filament which divides by formation of transverse walls to form individual cells. The cells multiply by fission, by complex vegetative reproduction, and by branching. There is no prolonged diploid phase. The genus Nocardia is distinct from Actinomyces.
