Abstract
This paper is based upon work done with K. R. Hackwell in Ecology Division to provide a better basis for comments on management proposals. We began from the assumption that conservation of species and their habitats is desirable. Much conservation can be done in man-modified habitats, but here we are dealing purely with the reservation of land of natural character. Keywords
