π-Cyclo-octenyl-rhodium and -iridium complexes as intermediates in the isomerisations of cyclo-octadienes

Abstract

Cyclo-octa-1,3-, -1,4-, and -1,5-dienes react with (C₅Me₅MCl₂)₂ to give C₅Me₅M(1,5-C₈H₁₂)via a π-cyclooctenyl complex, C₅Me₅M(C₈H₁₃)Cl, isomerisation of uncomplexed diene occurring concurrently with the second step.
