Abstract
29 males, 71 females, with a mean age of 19.98, normal and phonetically naive, perceived sounds more accurately and frequently in the initial position. Sounds most difficult to discriminate were sounds which tended to be difficult to perceive and difficult to analyze and produce. Subjects showed a wide range of perception and analysis production ability. Vocabulary level, pronunciation ability, grade point avg., scientific ability (quantitative) ACE, linguistic ability ACE, total ability ACE, and speed of comprehension or general reading ability all had low correlations with factors studied.
