Abstract
In granulocytes of patients with chronic myelosis presenting a myeloid reaction, lipolysis can be demonstrated in the acid pH range, as well as alkaline lipase activity. The optimum pH for this lipase lies between 6. 0 and 6. 5, and the optimum substrate is obtained with a 6 g% coconut oil emulsion in plasma; Michaelis'' constant is 1.14 x 10-2 m. In con -trast, lipase activity is found only in the alkaline range in the leukocytes of patients with chronic lymphadenitis. The physiological significance of acid lipase in connection with phagocytosis is discussed. Keywords
