Abstract
The corrections that the structure of the proton and its polarizability induce in the Lamb shift in the muonic and the conventional hydrogen atom are calculated on the basis of up-to-date experimental data on the structure functions in deep-inelastic scattering. Numerically, the contribution from proton polarizability to the 2P-2S shift in the muonic hydrogen atom is 4.4 GHz.Keywords
