HIGH NITROGEN DIETS AND RENAL INJURY

Abstract
Experiments on rats indicated that a diet containing as little as 40% of dried beef liver is nephropathic for the white rat. A diet containing 20% of Na nucleate produces a granular kidney in 8 mos. or less. The disease is characterized by abundance of fibroblastic tissue and by thickening of the media of the arterial wall. A diet containing 10% of Na nucleate produces similar lesions of lesser degree.
