The Band Spectrum of CS

Abstract

The emission spectrum of CS has been photographed under high dispersion (0.28A per mm) permitting a considerable extension of the data of the main $A{}_{}{}^1{}_{}{}^{}\Pi \to x{}_{}{}^1{}_{}{}^{}\Sigma$ system (${\nu }_e=38,912.15\mathrm{}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{-1\mathrm{}}$), and revealing a new system $C{}_{}{}^1{}_{}{}^{}\Sigma \to B{}_{}{}^1{}_{}{}^{}\Sigma \left({\nu }_0\right(0, 0)\cong 39,905.1 {\mathrm{cm}}^{-1\mathrm{}})$. The anomalies of bands with extra heads or displaced origins (noted by Jevons) have been examined in detail and found to be due to rotational perturbations more widespread and striking than any previously reported.
