Thermal Desorption of 15NO Chemisorbed on Polycrystalline Rhenium Surfaces

Abstract
The chemisorption of nitric oxide, using 15NO, on polycrystalline rhenium has been studied by thermal desorption mass spectroscopy to make clear the chemisorption states of NO. At low coverage NO is adsorbed dissociatively on Re surfaces and at higher coverage NO is adsorbed molecularly at room temperature. NO dissociates prior to and during thermal desorption and the thermal desorption spectra of N2 from NO chemisorbed on Re can be explained from the dissociative reaction in adsorption-desorption processes.
