Abstract
We numerically study the excitation mechanism of the hydrogen atom in a microwave field and show that quantum mechanics imposes limitations to the classical chaotic diffusion. In particular a multiphoton resonance pattern has been found. We suggest that a direct laboratory experimental verification of these phenomena should be possible. Keywords
