A simplified two-stage hepatectomy in the rat.

Abstract
A simplified 2-stage hepatectomy in rats is described. It consists of ligating the posterior vena cava and placing a cellophane band about the portal vein. After about 2 months, the portal vein is completely occluded, collaterals have developed, and the liver may be removed. More than half the hepatectomized rats survive for 24 hr. when adequate glucose solution is infused.
