Potential Field and Force Constants of Some Trigonal Bipyramidal Pentahalides

Abstract

The valence-type force constants of PF₅, PCl₅, SbF₅, SbCl₅, NbCl₅ and TaCl₅ are evaluated by means of WILSON'S F—G matrix method, using existing infrared and RAMAN data. Anharmonicity is not taken into account.
